Look At All You Have Accomplished: A Letter To My Current Self

Personal, Writing

I came across an awesome writing prompt while reading Rachel Hollis’s new book Girl, Wash Your Face! The particular chapter was talking about the goal, things that have and haven’t been accomplished. It was a perfect chapter to read on a perfect day! This is something I have found to be true through reading this book so far.

Anyway, she suggested writing a letter to yourself highlighting all you have accomplished thus far! I loved the idea and thought it would be great to share it with all of you! So without further adieu…

Dear Current Self,

I know the past year has been a real struggle. You made a huge decision to move away from everyone you know to a city on the other side of the states. A city that you have only been to once, for a week. A place where you have no friends or family. Thankfully, you had your wonderful husband and two pups with you.

You are about to turn 31 and you’re thinking of all the things you should have accomplished by now and haven’t. Well, I am here to tell you about everything that you have accomplished so far… even though they aren’t your big-time future goals. I know it doesn’t seem like much now, but trust me you have accomplished so much!

Just look at 2017 alone! You moved from Houston to Seattle. You survived the first year in Seattle with a roof over your head, food in your belly, and clothes on your back! It was hard. There were lots of tears, but you did it! AND!! you weren’t alone! You even made new friends along the way. I would say the first year in a new place is a struggle, but 2018 is going to be amazing!

As far as the other things in your life… let’s take a look. You graduated high school, so many people don’t do that! You even graduated college, after being in the Navy for a couple years! That is huge! Granted you aren’t doing anything with your degree… and hey maybe you should have gone to school for something else or started your business sooner. Hind-sights 20/20 right?

You’re married! You have an amazing husband that loves you to death! Bonus! you have no kids right now! Double bonus! You have been married for nearly 6 wonderful years, together for nearly 10, and friends for nearly 11, years to the same amazing wonderful man! Neither of you can remotely imagine a world without each other! That alone is huge, especially in this world!

Even though it’s not published yet, or even in the hands of a publisher, you have managed to handwrite an entire book! AND you are already working on book 2! Tons of people don’t even finish their first book! I know you are going to make it in the publishing world because that book, that series you have rolling around in your head, is your baby! You will fight through any and all rejections to get it published!

Now, this is just a few of the amazing things you have done! And I could make the list go on and on and on. But let’s get real for a second… we don’t need to share all the things you have overcome! You know what they all are, and what makes you strong! However, I do have one thing to say!

All those terrible things that have happened in the past! Those nightmares that still haunt you! They are all in the past! It’s DONE! Don’t allow yourself to get hurt by them anymore! Stop doubting yourself, you are strong and amazing! You have buried your true self down so deep in fear of judgment and not being liked and its time to STOP! It’s time to show the world who you truly are! Let judger’s judge and you be YOU! It’s time to pop out of that shell and give the world a run for its money! The best support system lives with you, lean on him!
